ROCKPORT—It has been 22 years, but once again Joe Allen Hargis Athletic Field will host Indiana’s American Legion state finals.

Rockport Post 254 General Manager Owen Wells learned the $7,500 required bid was accepted by the state’s committee Jan. 12.

Wells said, “We’re really excited to be hosting again and expect a big crowd.

“It should be a fun time and also help benefit local businesses.”

The five-team, double-elimination tourney will be July 29-31. Jenkins Post 254 is guaranteed a birth in the state finals as the host team. However Wells made it clear he would prefer a regional title, which Rockport will also host July 22-24.

Manager Jim Haaff echoed that sentiment, “It’s important to win the sectional and regional, so you can keep playing.

“We have a veteran ball club coming back, so we just felt the time was right to host again. Several people have expressed how excited they are that we’re hosting it. I think it will be a great event for the Tri-state.”

The national regional will be held in Midland, Mich.
