My Welcome back to Indiana Baseball

After spending the last 6 1/2 years in North Carolina I was really looking forward to coaching baseball again here in Indiana. Those cold early spring practices and games would give way to some beautiful spring days with perfect Spring temperatures...or so I thought. The monsoon season put a much different spin on my return to Indiana baseball. I was not used to having 3 to 4 and even 5 games in a week. I was hoping to improve our catchers and hitters during practice but, well, practice? Practice? Let's just say Allen Iverson wouuld have loved playing baseball in Indiana this spring because there was no time for practice. If you did have a day without a game you wanted to rest, not run your guys through a long tough workout. Even without the rain, there were still several games scheduled each week, making it very difficult to get in the swings necessary to become better hitters or make necessary adjustments on defense. The earlier start time in Carolina allows for a more generous schedule, a couple games a week, plenty of practice time. I saw more improvement over the course of the season there than what I saw this year. But hey, I'm back where I wanted to be. I hope the game continues to grow here and I will do my part to help it. Hopefully, the weather cooperates or as they say here in Indiana, "wait a few minutes, it might change"--or in the case of this spring, a few weeks...
