Trying to get some conversation on the board... Are there any surprise teams out there in the early season? Here is what I have taken notice of so far 1A... How does Cowan consistently do it? They are ranked first and 8-0 after lost Justin O'Connor. 2A .... I am shocked that Luers has started 1-6 and yet still received votes in the poll huh? In 3A New Pal is looking very strong again Allen Cooper does as much with talent as anyone. In 4A one sneaky team that I know well is the New Castle Trojans. They have started the season 7-0 and are a quality ball club. What are you seeing around the state?
One of the surprise teams that I have noticed is Vincennes Rivet. They are a VERY small , private Catholic school that , in the past, haven't been much of a threat in 1A in west central Indiana.....but, they gave North Central quite a scare early in the season (my son started on the bump for us) and after the 1st inning, hit him pretty good. Cudos to Rivet .....just goes to show you, any team CAN get better. And just noticed they are ranked 9th in 4/18 1A rankings.
Thanks Tbirdfan. Rivet has shown itself to be a pleasant suprise so far this year. Time will tell. They have a definate mix of veteran vs young players. A deep group of pitchers and kids who can play multiple positions. It always helps to be able to swing the stick. We hope for an exciting season. Best of luck to North Central!
Being a fan of Indiana baseball it is crazy the amount of quality teams and players that come out of Southwestern Indiana. North Central has been good for what seems like forever and Rivet while being a small school routinely produces talent in all sports. Not forgetting Vincennes Lincoln who is ranked in 3A again. It seems like Lincoln is always producing D1 baseball talent the Hutchison kid (first name is slipping me),Clint Barmes,Jeff Cunningham, Zak Blemker, to name a few off the top of my head and i'm missing countless quality players from this school.
That would be Ryan Hutchison baseballbloom22
